About this place

Shivta National Park

Shivta National Park preserves the remains of a settlement that grew in the Negev during the Byzantine period, with churches, houses and water systems built for a dry environment. Walking between its stone ruins reveals how people lived and farmed in the desert.

Unlike a reconstructed village, Shivta is an archaeological landscape where streets and buildings can still be traced. The site belongs to the cultural heritage of the Negev desert settlements and is especially interesting for visitors who enjoy quiet historical walks.

What to see

  • Ruins of Byzantine churches and residential buildings
  • Ancient water collection and agricultural systems
  • Open views across the Negev highlands
