About this place
Western Wall (Kotel)
The Western Wall, or Kotel, is a surviving retaining wall of the Temple Mount complex in Jerusalem’s Old City and one of Judaism’s most important places of prayer. The large open plaza in front of it welcomes worshippers and visitors.
The Western Wall is a living religious site, so the experience is shaped by prayer, Jewish holidays and customs. Underground archaeological routes nearby are managed separately and should not be confused with a visit to the main plaza.
What to see
- The ancient stone wall and prayer plaza
- The atmosphere of prayers and religious gatherings
- A setting within the Jewish Quarter of the Old City
Visitor information
