About this place
Old City of Jerusalem
Jerusalem’s Old City is enclosed by historic walls and contains four traditional quarters: Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Armenian. Its narrow streets bring together religious sites, markets, residential alleys and architecture from many periods.
This is a living urban district with many individual sites. The Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and other venues have separate visiting arrangements to consider when planning a route.
What to see
- The historic gates and city walls
- Streets and markets of the four quarters
- A dense landscape of religious and historical landmarks
Visitor information
Approach the Old City on foot and expect crowds, steps and security checks. Entry rules vary greatly between religious compounds; check them separately.
