About this place

Church of the Holy Sepulchre

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre stands in Jerusalem’s Christian Quarter and is revered by many Christian communities as the site of Jesus’ crucifixion, burial and resurrection. The present building brings together chapels and structures from several historical periods.

Different denominations maintain worship spaces within the same church, and the building can become crowded with worshippers and pilgrims. Its interior is best explored respectfully, without treating active services as a tourist display.

What to see

  • The traditional Calvary site within the church
  • The Aedicule associated with Jesus’ tomb
  • Chapels, mosaics and architecture of different periods

Visitor information

Visitor movement may be restricted by services, religious holidays and queues. Dress respectfully, avoid obstructing worship and verify current access arrangements.
