About this place
Capernaum (Kfar Nahum)
Capernaum, also known as Kfar Nahum, is an archaeological site beside the Sea of Galilee. Its remains include the foundations of an ancient settlement and a monumental synagogue, while Christian tradition associates the village with parts of Jesus’ ministry.
The ruins lie in a lakeside setting, so the visit combines archaeology with views across the water. Visitors should distinguish the archaeological compound from other churches and sites around the northern shore of the lake.
What to see
- Remains of a settlement and its stone streets
- Ancient synagogue and archaeological displays
- Views over the Sea of Galilee
Visitor information
Check the relevant site operator for admission and opening arrangements. Walking surfaces can be uneven, and the lakeside climate is hot in summer.
